In 1991, the world of video games captivates introverted sixth-grader Yaguchi Haruo, who lacks social skills and struggles to connect with his peers. While his limited talents lie in mastering gaming consoles, he still dreams of finding a meaningful connection beyond the digital realm. His path crosses with that of Oono Akira, a classmate known for her popularity, intelligence, beauty, wealth, and exceptional video game prowess. Haruo is taken aback when she easily defeats him at Street Fighter II, and their daily encounters at various arcades only result in more losses.
