Description:
Umberto Domenico Ferrari, an elderly pensioner living in a boarding house, is caught between dwindling funds and mounting financial pressure from his landlady. He becomes actively involved in protests demanding a rise in old-age pensions in a desperate bid for better living conditions. Upon returning home, he is met with the harsh reality of his precarious situation when his landlady demands immediate payment of his 15,000 lire rent or face eviction along with his loyal dog. Unable to find the money in time, Umberto feigns illness in order to be admitted into a hospital as he fears losing both his home and his beloved pet. As tensions rise, the story delves into themes of social inequality, friendship, and desperation.
