In the gritty slums of Doya, a troubled young man named Joe Yabuki has developed an unorthodox method for dealing with life's problems: using his self-taught fighting skills to throw punches at them. Despite lacking discipline and manners, Joe's raw talent catches the eye of Danpei Tange - a former boxing coach now turned to alcoholism.
