Voica Teodorescu, an agricultural engineer fresh out of university, returns to her rural hometown where she joins a local team working on a monumental engineering project: building a dam and setting up an irrigation system. Her fiancé Ilarie accompanies her, but Voica also finds herself attracted to another engineer, Radu, who clashes with local boss Vasile Axente over his perceived incompetence.Radu seeks the support of the village vice-mayor, Dumitru Vardaru, as they both have concerns about Vasile's management style.
