The couple has also raised their straight son, Val, who is now 20 years old and engaged to Barbara. Eager to impress his future in-laws, particularly Barbara's ultraconservative father - Senator Kevin Keeley, Armand's Jewish heritage and homosexuality are hidden from view as he pretends to be straight. In this unconventional family setting, the dynamics shift when Val invites Barbara and her parents home for a meet-the-family dinner.
