In a small British town, rag-and-bone men Albert Steptoe and his son Harold make their living by collecting and selling old items from door to door using their horse and cart. The duo shares a close bond as they reside together in their junkyard sanctuary. Desperate for a better life, Harold invests his father's savings in a greyhound with the hope of striking it rich through dog racing.
