Mike Terry leads a modest life in Los Angeles, teaching jujitsu while struggling financially. His Brazilian wife, part of a family deeply involved in fight promotions, desires for him to embrace competition and reap financial rewards. However, Mike believes that participating in fights degrades the integrity of martial arts. One day, a woman accidentally sideswipes his car and later shoots out his studio's window, leading to a bizarre sequence of events where Mike rescues a famous action movie star during an altercation at a bar. Grateful for the assistance, the actor befriends Mike, offers him work on his latest film, and connects their wives in a business partnership. As Mike's debts continue to accumulate, he finds himself facing the prospect of stepping into the ring to secure financial stability, despite his moral objections.
