Description:
In a Vietnamese trench camp during the Vietnam War, West Point graduate Lieutenant Jeff Knight inherits command of a seasoned platoon led by Sergeant Michael McNamara. The veterans have grown weary of the conflict and are unimpressed with their new officer's naive idealism. Unlike his predecessor, who avoided danger until his tour ended, Jeff dives headfirst into leading his men. He soon discovers that the military manual can't prepare him for all the realities he encounters on the front lines, resulting in a wound that temporarily sidelines him. Upon his return, Jeff's courage and determination have earned him respect from both his men and superiors. However, their challenges extend beyond encounters with the Vietcong. The platoon must navigate complex relationships with the local villagers they have been tasked to protect. Some collaborate openly with the enemy, others covertly work with the Cong, and all are susceptible to brutal reprisals that put the G.I.'s in a difficult position. This intricate web of alliances and fears adds another layer of complexity to an already tense situation, forcing Jeff and his platoon to confront the moral ambiguities of warfare and question their roles as protectors and occupiers.
