Amid the stark beauty of rural Texas in 1935, the life of Edna Spaulding, a recently widowed mother of two, is a testament to resilience and determination. Balancing the demands of her children, farm upkeep, and dwindling finances, she bravely forges ahead while grappling with external threats such as a destructive tornado and the ominous presence of the Ku Klux Klan. Her journey is far from solitary, however - her resourceful sister Margaret, a blind boarder named Mr. Will, and an initially misguided thief turned unlikely mentor, Moze, all lend their own unique support to Edna's struggle. Together, they learn the value of perseverance, selflessness, and community while navigating the harsh realities of their time.
