In this romantic comedy set in the early days of country music, Brad Allen, a successful yet unapologetically charming songwriter, constantly leaves a trail of broken hearts as he moves from one relationship to another. His neighbor, Jan Morrow - an accomplished interior designer who values privacy and decency - can't help but hear all about his romances over their shared telephone party line. Tired of Brad's assistant Jan's eavesdropping on his escapades, Brad decides to play a little prank by pretending to be a sincere and honest Texas rancher in an attempt to win her heart. Meanwhile, their mutual friend Jonathan is secretly in love with Jan but finds himself in a tricky situation when he realizes that Brad is trying to woo his desired woman. As the story unfolds, the once-simple friendship between these three characters becomes a tangled web of emotions, misunderstandings, and surprising twists, all set against the backdrop of the vibrant country music scene of the time.
