In the tumultuous backdrop of World War II, Duke E. Gifford serves as the second-in-command aboard the USS Thunderfish submarine, tasked with navigating the treacherous waters and fulfilling crucial wartime missions. However, the crew faces an unnerving predicament; their torpedoes have a propensity to either detonate prematurely or fail to explode altogether. This technical dilemma takes on a personal dimension for Duke as he is also driven by his determination to win back the love of his ex-wife, a dedicated nurse tirelessly serving her country. However, his pursuit of reconciliation becomes a complex endeavor when he discovers that his estranged wife has fallen in love with his own commanding officer's younger brother, a daring navy flier.
