Mother of Mine

Set against the backdrop of World War II, the story follows nine-year-old Eero, who is uprooted from his Finnish home when his father tragically dies during the conflict. In an effort to protect him from harm, he is sent to live with a Swedish foster family in an unfamiliar environment. The transition is especially challenging for Eero as he grapples with feelings of isolation and loss, further intensified by the fact that his foster mother, Signe, fails to warm up to him. Her cold demeanor stems from her own personal tragedy; she had lost her young daughter in a drowning accident and still grieves deeply for her. This poignant tale delves into themes of displacement, grief, and the complexities of forming familial bonds amidst war and turmoil.
