Mary and Martha

In this poignant drama, wealthy American housewife Mary Morgan decides to educate her son George at home and embarks on an enlightening journey to Southern Africa. Tragically, while in Mozambique, George succumbs to malaria after being bitten by a mosquito that penetrates his net. Stricken with grief, Mary is compelled to return to the continent where she meets Martha O'Connell, another mother who has lost her son Ben to the same preventable disease. As they witness the alarming death toll caused by malaria and strive to bring about change, both women embark on a personal and political quest that exposes the harsh realities of global health disparity. While Martha commits herself to volunteering in Africa, Mary leverages her connections as the daughter of a former diplomat and lobbies the US government for increased funding and action against malaria. Together, their persistence leads to some progress but underscores that much remains to be done to address this devastating crisis.
