Set against the backdrop of the harsh Arctic landscape in 1931, the film follows the unusual yet tender friendship that forms between a young Eskimo named Avik and a British mapmaker, Walter Russell. When tragedy strikes and Avik contracts tuberculosis, Walter selflessly flies his young friend to a Montreal hospital.There, amidst the foreign surroundings, Avik encounters Albertine, a fellow patient who captures his heart. As the years go by, a decade later Avik finds himself entangled in a complicated love triangle when he meets Albertine again in London. Now a skilled British combat pilot, Avik is torn between his infatuation for the woman and his loyalty to Walter, who has grown romantically close to Albertine as well.The film masterfully explores themes of cultural clashes, love in its many forms, and the complexity of human relationships amidst a backdrop of historical events that shaped the world at the time.
