In the year of Mali's independence from France in 1960, the nation's youth embraces the cultural revolution brought on by rock and roll music from the West, dancing to its infectious beat while also seeking their own political awakening. Amidst this transformative era, a young socialist named Samba finds himself drawn to Lara, an unyieldingly spirited woman he meets during one of his missions in the rural bush. Sensing danger and oppression looming from her impending arranged marriage, Lara secretly flees with Samba to the bustling city, hoping for a chance at freedom and love. However, Lara's vengeful husband relentlessly pursues them, threatening not only their newfound happiness but also their dreams of a shared future in this rapidly evolving landscape.
