Like a Son

Jacques Romand, a disillusioned history teacher in a small French town, has seen better days in his professional career. He becomes unexpectedly entangled with the criminal underworld when he intervenes during an attempted robbery at a local store. Among the three assailants is a 14-year-old Roma boy named Victor, who finds himself apprehended by Jacques. This fateful encounter serves as a catalyst for both characters to confront their individual challenges and reevaluate their preconceived notions about themselves and others. As Jacques struggles with his personal crises in teaching, he starts mentoring the young delinquent Victor, sparking a transformative journey filled with moral dilemmas, self-discovery, and an exploration of the complexities surrounding race, culture, and adolescence.
