In the gritty streets of an unnamed city, Rawang, an immigrant laborer from Bangladesh, leads a difficult life in a cramped apartment shared with fellow immigrants. Despite his own struggles, he comes across Hsiao-kang, a Chinese man brutally assaulted and left injured on the street. With genuine compassion, Rawang takes Hsiao-kang under his wing and nurses him back to health using a discarded mattress from the streets.As Hsiao-kang starts to recover, he ventures out into the city and meets Chyi, a waitress at a local diner.
