Set against the backdrop of rural France in the 1930s, this heartwarming story follows the inhabitants of a small Provençal village on the brink of abandonment. Panturle harbors dreams of reviving his community, establishing a family, and returning to a life of farming.This charming tale takes an unexpected turn when a traveling knife-grinder named Urbain Gedemus and his captive companion Arsule enter the village. Despite being treated like a slave by Gedemus, Arsule finds solace in her situation as it prevents her from facing a darker fate. When she learns of Panturle's aspirations, she decides to break free from Gedemus and join him, hoping to help him fulfill his dreams.Together, Arsule and Panturle embark on a new chapter in their lives, filled with the hardships of farming but also the unbridled joy of shared love and companionship.
