Dick and Mandy, a young and dedicated working-class couple, find solace in their newly acquired council house in the picturesque town of Canterbury. However, their newfound peace is disrupted by an unexpected neighbor – Mr. Butcher, one of their former teachers, who takes residence next door. As they navigate this change in proximity and revisit their past with their old teacher, Mandy's unmarried sister Gloria adds further complexity to the situation as she frequently visits and disrupts their privacy. Despite her well-meaning attempts at closeness, Gloria's relentless intrusion eventually pushes Dick and Mandy to confront her and reevaluate the boundaries of family and friendship.
