Girlhood

In this poignant coming-of-age story, the protagonist Marieme is suffocated by the limitations imposed by her family, societal norms, and restrictive educational system. She yearns for liberation from the confines of her life until she encounters a trio of fearless and independent young women. In an attempt to break free from her mundane existence, Marieme adopts a new persona – both in appearance and attitude – and abandons her schooling in pursuit of acceptance within their unconventional circle. The film explores themes of self-discovery, the pressure to conform, and the transformative power of camaraderie in the face of adversity as Marieme navigates the challenges that lie ahead on her path to personal freedom.
