When a struggling New York playwright's efforts to rekindle a relationship with her ex-lover fail spectacularly, she impulsively stages a suicide scene in desperation. However, instead of gaining sympathy from her ex, she finds herself in the care of her eccentric gambling-addict mother. As they navigate this unconventional living arrangement, both women are forced to confront their personal demons, as well as the complicated dynamics between them.
