Carl 'Griff' Griffin, an exceptionally skilled flier, stands out as the main cause of this shortcoming. Kirby finds him ill-suited for command due to his reluctance to make the challenging calls that may require putting men in danger and ultimately risking their lives. As the squadron prepares for battle, it becomes a race against time for Major Kirby to instill discipline and instigate change before they face the realities of war.
