Description:
Amélie, a young woman raised in Japan but originally from Belgium, embarks on an exploration of cultural identity when she returns to live there for a year. Determined to fully immerse herself and become a "real Japanese," Amélie encounters the nuances and challenges of adhering to their customs and norms. Working as a translator at a prestigious import-export company, her lack of understanding leads to humiliating demotions - a journey that is both empowering and disheartening.As she navigates through Japanese society, Amélie finds herself under the watchful eye and cruel control of her immediate supervisor, Miss Fubuki. The sadistic power play between them reaches a climax when Amélie is relegated to the role of bathroom attendant. This breaking point leads Amélie to realize that she has indeed become "a real Japanese," but not in the way she initially imagined. Her journey is one of self-discovery, acceptance and adaptation as she grapples with cultural expectations and personal growth.
