In the small town of Eckernförde, an audiocassette is discovered containing the final moments of late politician Uwe Barschel's life, casting doubt on his mysterious death that has puzzled investigators for years. When Nina, the editor's daughter, inadvertently brings the tape with her to Munich to visit her mother in a sanatorium, both the CIA and the BND become alerted to its existence and initiate a covert competition to acquire it. To ensure that the tape falls into the wrong hands, Nina is assigned two comical and well-meaning bodyguards, Erkan & Stefan. While they initially seem unfit for the task, these endearing underdogs prove themselves more resourceful than anticipated, thwarting the clandestine efforts of the CIA and BND to retrieve the tape in a series of amusing misadventures.
