In the small village of Stevns in Denmark during the early 1600s, Anne, a young woman whose mother was once falsely accused of witchcraft, finds herself drawn to an older woman named Marte who is similarly targeted by the community. Despite her husband, Pastor Absalon's intervention that saved her mother from such allegations, his current reluctance to help Marte creates tension in their relationship. When Anne's son returns home and forms a connection with her, her troubled family history starts to unravel around her. As the village's judgments intensify, Anne must navigate the consequences of her past, her husband's indecision, and the looming possibility that history may repeat itself within her own family.
