Chess Story

In 1938, Austria's tumultuous political climate sees lawyer Josef Bartok attempting a daring escape to America with his wife. Unfortunately for them, they are captured by the Gestapo. Despite the horrors of solitary confinement and brutal interrogations, Josef refuses to divulge any information. As he struggles with the psychological turmoil, a chance encounter with an old book about chess provides him with a mental escape from his torment. This newfound passion soon takes over, becoming a dangerous obsession that threatens to consume Josef's already fragile state of mind. Through this harrowing tale of defiance and survival amidst tyranny, the film explores themes of resilience in the face of adversity and the power of the human spirit in the pursuit of freedom and hope.
