Jack Thornton's journey towards the gold fields in Alaska takes an unexpected turn when he purchases a part-wolf sled dog named Buck for $250. His acquisition of Buck not only saves him from a haughty Englishman but also improves his fortunes at card games, enabling him to gather the necessary stake. During his trek, Jack rescues Claire Blake, whose husband was in possession of a valuable map, and their shared experience with Buck forms a bond between them.
