Plot:

In the early 1940s, an investigative journalist in Chicago stumbles upon a case that challenges his preconceived notions of justice and corruption within the police force. The story revolves around Frank Wiecek, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a cop back in 1932. When Frank's mother places a newspaper advertisement pleading for her son's release, the reporter takes it upon himself to revisit the case and uncover the truth behind the conviction. As P.J. O'Neal delves deeper into the past events, he initially remains convinced of Frank's guilt. However, as he starts unearthing inconsistencies in the trial's evidence and the testimonies of key witnesses, his convictions begin to waver. He soon discovers that the authorities involved in the case are reluctant to admit their mistake and are willing to go to great lengths to ensure Frank remains behind bars, even if it means compromising the principles of justice. This gritty drama sheds light on themes such as the miscarriage of justice, institutionalized corruption, and the power of journalism in exposing these issues. As P.J. O'Neal navigates through a labyrinth of lies and deceit, he is forced to confront his own biases and assumptions about guilt and innocence, ultimately leading him to question the very foundations of the legal system that he thought he understood.
