Alice Adams

The Adams family, consisting of a hardworking father and son, contentedly go about their lives in a drugstore. In stark contrast, mother and daughter Alice tirelessly pursue social advancement, often experiencing snubs and embarrassment along the way. When Alice finally meets her ideal man, Arthur, her mother convinces the father to take on a risky business venture in order to appear more affluent. To impress their newfound suitor, they host an "upscale" family dinner with disastrous results. The question remains: will this cringe-worthy display be enough to drive Arthur away?
