In an idyllic suburban setting, Steve enjoys the trappings of success: a thriving career, two lovely children, a charming wife, and a beautiful home. But on his birthday, as he walks through the door to the somber darkness of an intentionally darkened house, he begins to sense that something is gravely amiss. He discovers that most of the lightbulbs have been removed and all easy points of access outside have been cut off - an eerie prelude to the horrifying revelations that await him in a videotape left in plain sight.As he plays the tape, Steve is confronted with a deeply disturbing recording: his wife, who had vanished along with their children, calmly and graphically explains her motivations for deserting them all. She accuses Steve of systematically neglecting and devaluing her over time, revealing in chilling detail the reasons behind her decision to take drastic action. The pain and anger in her voice are palpable as she lays out her revenge strategy, a plan designed to make him live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life - an experience that will leave him forever haunted and changed.
