A Summer Tale

Set against the backdrop of the 1958 World Cup, this tender film chronicles the summertime bonding of an unlikely trio: Yngve Johansson, middle-aged guardian to two children, Mårten and Annika; their dedicated teacher, Cecilia Nilsson; and a shared longing for connection and belonging. Initially at odds with one another, the dynamic between Yngve and his charges is akin to that of a strict disciplinarian and his unruly charges. As the narrative unfolds, however, it becomes clear that beneath their initially rough exteriors, each character holds a vulnerability that brings them together in unexpected ways. Driven by the shared desire to bring Cecilia and Yngve closer, Mårten and Annika forge a deep friendship, which in turn allows all three of them to find solace from their troubled pasts.
