Set in the 1980s Soviet Union, our film follows the lives of two naval officers, Orlov and Muravyev, as they serve at the Black Sea Navy Base in Sevastopol, Crimea. A complex love triangle emerges when both friends develop feelings for the same woman, Nelly, causing tension between them. When Nelly chooses Muravyev, the rift deepens, pushing Orlov towards an inferiority complex and secretive alcoholism.After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the two friends are reassigned to the Northern Fleet on the Polar Ocean. During a routine training exercise with their submarine, they come across a dislodged WWII mine that threatens to collide with them. A catastrophic explosion ensues, plunging the vessel into darkness 72 meters below the sea level.The remainder of the film follows the harrowing ordeal faced by the survivors as they navigate the wrecked submersible in a life-or-death struggle for survival. The tight confines of their underwater prison, coupled with their desperate situation, serve to heighten tensions and test the limits of human endurance. Through this story, we are reminded that friendship, love, and personal demons can all play significant roles even in the most extreme circumstances.
