25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee

"25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee" is an artistic exhibition delving into the sensitive issue of human displacement. Created by Jennifer Kim Sohn and displayed at the WMQFA from March 1 to July 28, 2024, this powerful visual statement sheds light on a global crisis through the shared efforts of thousands. The installation features 25 million hand-sewn stitches, each symbolizing a displaced individual, bound to 407 muslin banners. These smaller panels stemmed from the contributions of over 2,300 stitchers across 37 countries and all 50 U.S states. Collaborating artists Nina Edelman and Helen Lambron, along with WMQFA artist in residence Noora Badeen and museum staff, work to explore the intricate process of creating such an impactful exhibit that prompts viewers to reflect on the scale of human displacement globally.
