Liu Ye, born March 23rd, 1978 in Jilin, China, is a multi-talented Chinese film and television actor. Even as a 20-year-old student studying performing arts at Beijing's Central Academy of Drama, Liu's innate acting abilities shined through brightly. He was first nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a young postman in the film "Postmen in the Mountains" during China's prestigious Golden Rooster Awards in 1999.

Upon graduation, Liu Ye took home Best Actor at Taiwan’s esteemed 38th Golden Horse Awards for his portrayal of a young gay man in the movie "Lan Yu." He further solidified his acting prowess by winning another Best Actor accolade at the 24th Golden Rooster Awards for his role in "The Foliage." Liu's dedication to taking on challenging roles, from humble and honest characters to introverted and melancholic personas, as well as manly and Casanova roles, has not only captivated audiences but also attracted the attention of renowned international directors.

Liu Ye collaborated with esteemed directors such as Stanley Kwan in "Lan Yu," Chen Kaige in "The Promise," Zhang Yimou in "Curse of the Golden Flower," and John Woo in "Blood Brothers." His breakthrough role in Hollywood came when he starred alongside acting legend Meryl Streep in the movie "Dark Matter." The film, inspired by a true story from the early 1990s, was showcased at major international film festivals in 2007 and received critical acclaim.

Liu Ye's first villainous role emerged in the 2008 film "Connected," where he appeared significantly older than his actual age. In 2009, Liu portrayed the lead character in "City of Life and Death," a film paying tribute to the victims of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.
