Biography:
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Tyler Hynes was bitten by the acting bug at an early age. At just eight years old, he took on the challenge of a 72-performance run of "A Christmas Carol" on stage and later joined the cross-country tour of The Who's rock opera, "Tommy." This early exposure to the world of theater set Tyler on a path that would lead him to become an accomplished actor, director, producer, editor, and writer.
With his feet firmly planted on both sides of the camera, Tyler made his first foray into film with "Little Men," starring alongside Mariel Hemingway. This marked the beginning of a diverse acting career that saw him share the screen with notable talents such as Tim Roth, Andie MacDowell, James Franco, Sienna Miller, Henry Cavill, Ellen Page, Billy Bob Thornton and more.
Hynes's unique blend of charisma and talent was recognized when he was nominated "fan favorite" in his teen years, leading him to star in the TV series "Tales from the Never Ending Story" as Atreyu, and later as "The Chosen One" in "Peter Benchley's Amazon."
As Tyler grew into adulthood, he continued to challenge himself with roles in critically acclaimed television series such as "Saving Hope," "The Firm," the John Grisham adaptation "19-2," and the Emmy-winning Lifetime series "Unreal." He also enjoyed guest starring roles on hit shows like NCIS, Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, Transporter, Star Trek: Discovery, among others - some of which earned him award recognition.
Recently, Tyler's standout performance as Sgt. Reece in the WWII feature "Recon" has drawn critical acclaim for its nuanced portrayal of a complex character. In stark contrast to his role in "Recon," Tyler has found success as one of Hallmark Channel's leading men, bringing a fresh perspective to the genre. Simultaneously, he adds depth and intrigue to Hulu's popular comedy series "Letterkenny" as Dierks, the antagonist to Letterkenny's beloved star Jared Keeso, with whom Tyler also shared screen time in "19-2."
Fueled by his passion for filmmaking, Tyler has expanded his talents to include directing, writing, and producing. Among his short films are the documentary "Help Doug Recycle," which explores a homeless man's struggle with substance abuse; the coming-of-age drama "Firefly"; and "AFK_," a proof of concept funded by BELL Media for a television pitch. The release of "AFK_" online garnered praise from taste-maker websites like "Short of the Week."
With his growing notoriety behind the camera, Tyler was soon approached to helm music videos for multi-platinum and Grammy-winning artists. He seized this opportunity as a way to further hone his craft, writing, directing, producing, and editing over a dozen music videos for artists such as Shaun Frank and Rezz. These videos earned features on sites like Billboard and nominations in award shows like the "Much Music Video Awards."
Throughout his diverse career, Tyler Hynes has demonstrated an extraordinary range of talent and versatility, making him a highly sought-after actor, director, writer, and producer. From World War II dramas to hit comedies, romantic leading roles, and music videos for Grammy-winning artists, Hynes's unique journey in the entertainment industry is truly one for the books.
