Aristotelis "Telly" Savalas, an American actor and singer, was no stranger to the limelight throughout his illustrious four-decade career. Born in the bustling city of Astoria, New York, Savalas would go on to etch his name into Hollywood history with memorable performances on both the silver screen and small-screen.

Although he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1962's "Birdman of Alcatraz," it was his grizzled, unforgettable portrayal of Lieutenant Theo Kojak that truly solidified Savalas' place among the greats. His distinctive lisp and iconic lollipop-sucking habit made Kojak a pop culture sensation in the 1970s crime drama.

Savalas' filmography boasts an impressive array of roles, from a prosecutor in "The Young Savages" to Jesus Christ himself in "The Greatest Story Ever Told."
