Biography:
Born on March 9, 1989, Kim Tae-yeon is a multifaceted South Korean singer and actress who found fame as the captivating lead vocalist of the all-female pop group Girls' Generation. Growing up, Tae-yeon was convinced that her calling lay in music, and by the time she reached middle school, she began taking voice lessons through S.M. Entertainment - a major music firm. Her remarkable talent caught the eye of the company when she won their talent competition in 2004, leading to a contract offer which eventually saw her become a member of Girls' Generation in 2007.
The group skyrocketed to fame with the release of their hit song "Gee" in 2009, not only dominating South Korea but also capturing hearts in Japan and the United States. Tae-yeon quickly became the face of the band, often gracing television specials and stage performances independently from her fellow group members. She even led two spin-off acts - TTS with Girls' Generation members Tiffany and Seohyun in 2012, and S.M. The Ballad in 2014, which focused on ballads and traditional standards.
In 2015, Tae-yeon expanded her horizons further by embarking on a solo career with the release of her EP "I." It quickly became one of the year's best-selling releases, and this momentum continued through 2017 when she released her much anticipated first solo album "My Voice" in February. This was followed by a holiday album titled "This Christmas - Winter Is Coming." Her second full-length album, "Purpose," arrived in October 2019 with the hit single "Four Seasons" and reached number two on South Korea's charts while also breaking into the Top Ten on Billboard's World Albums chart. In December of 2020, Tae-yeon continued her solo journey with her fourth Korean-language EP, "What Do I Call You."
Throughout her career, Kim Tae-yeon has demonstrated not only a powerful voice but also a resilient spirit and unwavering passion for music.
