Biography:
Born on May 13, 1964, Stephen Tyrone Colbert is an accomplished American satirist, writer, comedian, television host, and actor. He rose to fame through his work in political satire and television comedy. While attending Northwestern University, he crossed paths with Second City director Del Close, who sparked his interest in improvisational theater.
Colbert initially embarked on a career as an actor but soon found himself drawn towards the world of improv. He began his professional journey as an understudy for Steve Carell at Second City Chicago, where he shared the stage with future comedy legends Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris. Together, they developed the critically acclaimed sketch comedy series Exit 57.
Colbert's talents didn't go unnoticed for long. He joined the cast of The Dana Carvey Show before reconnecting with Sedaris and Dinello for the cult television series Strangers with Candy. In this show, he played Chuck Noblet, a closeted gay history teacher, which further cemented his status as a versatile performer.
However, it was his stint as a correspondent on Comedy Central's news-parody series The Daily Show that truly propelled him into the limelight. In 2005, he left The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to host his own spin-off series, aptly titled The Colbert Report. This show parodied personality-driven political opinion shows like The O'Reilly Factor and quickly became one of Comedy Central's highest-rated series.
Colbert's work on The Colbert Report garnered him three Emmy Award nominations and an invitation to perform as the featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in 2006. Time magazine even named him one of its 100 most influential people in 2006. His book, I Am America (And So Can You!), reached No. 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list, further solidifying his place as a comedic force to be reckoned with.
