Born on November 6th, 1946, Sally Margaret Field is an American actress known for her exceptional talent and versatility. Her career began on television where she starred in several popular comedies such as "Gidget" (1965-1966), "The Flying Nun" (1967-1970), and "The Girl with Something Extra" (1973-1974). Field also appeared in the western film "The Way West" in 1967.
Field's breakthrough performance came in 1976 when she starred in the television film "Sybil," which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Her film debut was as an extra in "Moon Pilot" (1962), but it was during the 1970s that she truly made her mark with starring roles in movies like "Stay Hungry" (1976), "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977), "Heroes" (1977), "The End" (1978), and "Hooper" (1978).
In the 1980s, Field won not one but two Academy Awards for Best Actress - first for her role in "Norma Rae" (1979) and later for "Places in the Heart" (1984).
