Biography:
Ron Howard, an accomplished actor-turned-filmmaker from America, rose to fame as a child star in both television series and films. Born Ronald William Howard, he first garnered attention through guest appearances on several TV shows before being cast as Opie Taylor, the son of Sheriff Andy Taylor (playing opposite Andy Griffith), in "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960 to 1968. Concurrently, he appeared in "The Music Man" (1962), a hit musical film.
In 1973, Howard was cast as Richie Cunningham in the beloved sitcom "Happy Days," which ran until 1984. Simultaneously, he ventured into cinema, starring in films such as "The Shootist" (1976) and "Grand Theft Auto" (1977), where he also made his directorial debut.
In 1984, Howard decided to focus solely on directing, producing, and occasionally writing for both film and television. His impressive body of work spans several genres - from the sci-fi/fantasy "Cocoon" (1985) to the fantasy adventure "Willow" (1988), thriller "Backdraft" (1991), historical drama "Apollo 13" (1995), holiday comedy "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (2000), psychological drama "A Beautiful Mind" (2001) - a project that earned him an Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture. He was also nominated for these awards for "Frost/Nixon" (2008).
