Richard Earl Thomas, an American actor who was born on June 13, 1951, is best known for his portrayal of the budding author John-Boy Walton in the beloved CBS drama series "The Waltons." Throughout his illustrious career, Thomas has not only won an Emmy Award but has also received nominations for another Emmy and two Golden Globe Awards.
Born in Manhattan to parents Barbara (née Fallis) and Richard S. Thomas, both of whom were dancers with the New York City Ballet and co-owners of the New York School of Ballet, young Richard's life was deeply entwined with the world of performing arts from a very early age. He attended prestigious schools in Manhattan - The Allen Stevenson School and the McBurney School - before making his Broadway debut at just seven years old. In 1958, Thomas starred as John Roosevelt, son of future U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in "Sunrise at Campobello." This early introduction to the stage marked the beginning of a lifelong career in acting for this talented young man.
