Biography:

Born and raised in Texas, Renée Kathleen Zellweger was initially drawn towards a career in journalism. However, her love for acting blossomed as she worked on stage during her time at the University of Texas at Austin studying English literature. Small roles in films such as Dazed and Confused (1993) and Reality Bites (1994) followed, but it was her starring role in the slasher film Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994) that brought her to public attention.

Zellweger's career continued to flourish with memorable roles in the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire (1996), the drama One True Thing (1998), and the black comedy Nurse Betty (2000). This last role earned her a Golden Globe Award. Her next significant breakthrough came in 2001 with the character of Bridget Jones in the romantic comedy Bridget Jones's Diary, followed by her portrayal of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago (2002), securing consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actress.

A significant career milestone arrived when Zellweger won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2003 for her role as a loquacious farmer in the war film Cold Mountain. She reprised her iconic Bridget Jones role in the sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and then took a hiatus from acting before returning to the character in 2016's Bridget Jones's Baby.

In recent years, Zellweger has made her mark on television with her first major role in the Netflix series What/If (2019).
