Born in Mirfield, near Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, England, Stewart comes from humble roots – his mother was a weaver and textile worker, while his father served as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the British Army before working as a laborer and postman.

Stewart's acting career took off with remarkable roles on both stage and screen. He is best recognized for his television and film performances, most notably as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" films.
