Biography:
Neil Dudgeon was born on January 2nd, 1961, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. He was always drawn to performing arts and nurtured his talent at Danum Grammar School, where he became involved in various school plays. This passion led him to pursue a degree in drama at university.
His acting journey began on screen in 1987 when he made his debut appearance. The following year, Dudgeon starred alongside Tim Woodward, Jeremy Northam, and Nathaniel Parker in "Piece of Cake," playing the role of a World War II pilot. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous TV series, including "Casualty," "London's Burning," and "Lovejoy."
In 1994 and 1997, Dudgeon took on the character of George the Chauffeur in "The Mrs Bradley Mysteries" alongside the legendary Diana Rigg. He also appeared in "Inspector Morse" (episode "The Way Through The Woods") and the long-running series "A Touch of Frost" with David Jason, as well as shows like "Between The Lines," "Common As Muck," "Out of the Blue," "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking," and four series of "Messiah" with Ken Stott.
In 2007, Dudgeon took on the titular role in the BBC2 sitcom "Roman's Empire," portraying a self-made millionaire. Since 2009, he has been starring as Jim Riley in the popular BBC comedy "Life of Riley." In 2010, Dudgeon joined the iconic ITV crime drama "Midsomer Murders" with an appearance in the episode "The Sword of Guillaume."
During this time, it was announced that he would succeed John Nettles as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby's cousin in "Midsomer Murders," taking over as the lead character after Nettles' retirement. This transition took place in 2011 following the final episodes featuring John Nettles.
