Born on August 26, 1970, in Plainfield, Illinois, Melissa Ann McCarthy is a multi-talented American actress, screenwriter, and producer who has earned an impressive number of accolades throughout her illustrious career. In fact, Time magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world back in 2016. She's also been featured multiple times among the highest-paid actresses worldwide and ranked #22 on The New York Times list of the 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century.

McCarthy began her journey in the entertainment industry in the late '90s, landing roles on television shows and in films. She first gained recognition for her portrayal of Sookie St. James on the beloved TV series Gilmore Girls (2000-2007). After that, she played Dena on the ABC sitcom Samantha Who? (2007-2009) and then starred as Molly Flynn on CBS's Mike & Molly (2010-2016), for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011.

Her hosting gigs on Saturday Night Live (2011-2017) led to another Emmy win, this time for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, in 2017. McCarthy's comedic talent shined brightly in the hit film Bridesmaids (2011), which garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
