Swedish actor Max von Sydow, born Carl Adolf von Sydow on April 10, 1929, boasted an illustrious career that spanned across numerous languages and nationalities. Acquiring French citizenship in 2002, he became a global icon known for his versatility and talent.

It was Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957) that catapulted him into international fame, with von Sydow's portrayal of knight Antonius Block marking the beginning of their fruitful collaboration. This iconic film showcases von Sydow's most recognized scene, where he plays a game of chess with Death itself. Throughout his career, he performed in numerous films across languages, including Swedish, Norwegian, English, Italian, German, Danish, French, and Spanish.
