Biography:

Marlon Brando Jr., an iconic figure in American cinema, was born in 1924 and became one of the most influential actors of the 20th century. Spanning six decades, his career saw numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and three British Academy Film Awards. A passionate activist, Brando dedicated himself to causes such as civil rights and Native American movements.

Brando's extraordinary acting abilities were first recognized after studying with Stella Adler in the 1940s, where he became one of the pioneers of bringing the Stanislavski system of acting, also known as method acting, into mainstream audiences. His breakthrough role was Stanley Kowalski in the 1951 film adaptation of Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Further success followed with his performance as Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront, winning him his first Academy Award and Golden Globe Award. His portrayal of Johnny Strabler in The Wild One left an indelible mark on popular culture. Brando received additional nominations for his roles in Viva Zapata!, Julius Caesar, and Sayonara.

The 1960s saw a commercial and critical downturn in Brando's career. After directing and starring in the cult western One-Eyed Jacks, he went on to appear in several box-office failures, including Mutiny on the Bounty. A turning point came when he agreed to audition for Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather (1972). This role brought him critical acclaim and his second Academy Award and Golden Globe Award, with many considering this performance among his finest. However, due to perceived mistreatment of Native Americans in Hollywood, Brando declined the Academy Award.

In the 1970s, Brando took on supporting roles in films like Superman, Apocalypse Now, and The Formula, before taking a nine-year break from film acting. In 1999, Time magazine named him as one of the 100 Most Important People of the Century, designating him as the "Actor of the Century." Brando's talent, dedication to his craft, and impact on cinema make him an unforgettable figure in film history.
