Biography:
Born to acting parents Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd in a family brimming with talent, Laura Elizabeth Dern was destined for the stage. Kicking off her career in the 80s, this American actress quickly gained recognition for her standout performances in films like Mask (1985) and David Lynch's Blue Velvet (1986). Dern continued to impress critics with her role in Wild at Heart (1990), which earned her an Academy Award nomination.
It was, however, her portrayal of the titular orphan in the drama film Rambling Rose (1991) that really solidified her as a force to be reckoned with. Then came her role in Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park (1993), catapulting her into international fame and earning her a place in Hollywood history. She even returned to the world of dinosaurs in the sequel, Jurassic Park III (2001).
In 2008, Dern was awarded two Golden Globe Awards for her roles as Katherine Harris in the television film Recount and Amy Jellicoe in the comedy-drama series Enlightened (2011–2013), which also earned her an Academy Award nomination. She continued to shine with her role in the biopic Wild (2014).
