Biography:
Kyōko Enami was an iconic Japanese film and television actress who emerged from the shadows of her famous mother, Kazuko Enami. Born into the world of acting, Kyōko joined Daiei Film studio in 1959 and stepped onto the silver screen for the first time in 1960 with the coming-of-age film "Ashita kara Otona da."
Her breakthrough role as Noboriryū no Ogin in the 1966 film "Onna no Toba" catapulted her into stardom and birthed the enduring Woman Gambler series, a total of 17 films. Enami's acting prowess extended beyond the realm of gambling dramas; she took on serious roles as well, earning critical acclaim, including the Best Actress award from Kinema Junpo in 1973 for her outstanding performance in "Tsugaru Jongarabushi."
Off-screen, Kyōko's life was not without its share of challenges. She battled pulmonary emphysema, a condition that would ultimately claim her life on October 27, 2018, at the age of 75. In true Enami spirit, she continued to work up until the very end; just five days before her passing, she starred in a radio drama, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to her craft.
