Biography:
Born Kristi Dawn Chenoweth in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on July 24, 1968, the petite actress and singer has made a lasting impact in musical theater, film, and television. She began singing gospel music as a child and studied opera before deciding to pursue her dreams on Broadway.
In 1997, Chenoweth made her Broadway debut in Steel Pier, winning a Theatre World Award for her performance. She then went on to star in the beloved musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, for which she received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 1999. Her subsequent role as Glinda in Wicked earned her another Tony nomination in 2003.
Chenoweth has continued to grace the Broadway stage with roles in The Apple Tree (2006), Promises, Promises (2010), and On the Twentieth Century (2015), for which she received yet another Tony Award nomination. In addition to her Broadway success, Kristin has appeared in Off-Broadway and regional theater productions and performed in five City Center Encores!
Her talent and charm have also shined on television, with memorable roles including Annabeth Schott on NBC's The West Wing and Olive Snook on the whimsical comedy Pushing Daisies. For her performance in Pushing Daisies, Chenoweth won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009. She later starred as a member of the titular "GCB" in ABC's satirical comedy series GCB in 2012 and played Lavinia in NBC's Trial & Error in 2018. In 2021, Kristin appeared as the villainous antagonist Mildred Layton in Apple TV+'s musical comedy Schmigadoon!
Chenoweth has also ventured into film, with roles in Bewitched (2005), The Pink Panther (2006), and RV (2006). She has lent her voice to animated films like Rio 2 (2014) and The Peanuts Movie (2015), as well as the animated TV series Sit Down, Shut Up and BoJack Horseman. Kristin hosted several award shows and released five albums of songs: A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas (2008), Some Lessons Learned (2011), Coming Home (2014), The Art of Elegance (2016), and For the Girls (2019).
In addition to her musical and acting prowess, Chenoweth penned a heartfelt memoir titled A Little Bit Wicked in 2009, which further highlights her remarkable journey in the entertainment industry.
